Alvin Arthur
Edlund
d. Aug 30, 2026
Fresno
Alvin Arthur Edlund, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle passed away August 30, 2026.
He was born to Alvin and Thurza (Gallyer) Edlund on June 16, 1932 in Fresno, Ca. He was raised in Fresno until his family bought a ranch in Caruthers, Ca. He attended elementary and high school there, graduating in 1950. He attended college at Cal Poly SLO. He then enlisted in the US Navy and served on the USS Toledo as a radioman in the Korean war. After returning to Caruthers, he was very proud to work at both schools in maintenance and driving the busses where he made lifelong friends. In July of 1955, his cousins set him up with his future wife, Ruth. They married in November of the same year and welcomed 3 children.
As a child in the early 1940's, Alvin spent summers camping with his grandfather in the high country near Mono Hot Springs and the love of the mountains began. In 1967, the mountains were calling. He moved his family to Big Creek and began his 23-year career with So Cal Edison.
Alvin was a Good Samaritan, always helping others. He was an avid fisherman and became quite accomplished at tying flies. Always carrying extra to give to many fellow fishermen in the high country. He and Ruth traveled often all over the United States and would take along grandkids and other family members. He served as an officer on the Madera County Bowling Association and was a gold star supporter of the junior bowling program.
He kept busy after retirement with woodworking and improving their home and land in North Fork, as well as camping for weeks at a time in his favorite spot. Due to health issues, Al and Ruth moved in with son, Bill in Auberry.
Alvin was preceded in death by his son Alvin Jr (Jody). He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Ruth, son Bill (Stephanie), daughter Patty, 5 grandchildren: Stacy, Janis, Jody, Steffanne, and Tommy; 4 great grandchildren: Hannah, Jillian, Kaeli and Zachary; sister Marjorie and nieces Loraine, Lois, Kathy, Jacqui, Ellen and Anna.
Services are to be held at a later date.
