Kathleen Ann Kelly

Kathleen Ann Kelly, age 89, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2026, in Fresno, California.

Kathleen was born on April 8, 1937, in Lancaster, Wisconsin, to Henry and Matilda. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from Wisconsin State College and Institute of Technology in Platteville and later received a Master of Arts in Educational Administration from United States International University in San Diego.

Education was Kathleen's lifelong calling. She dedicated her career to teaching, mentoring, and leading in a variety of educational settings, including traditional and alternative schools, adult education, and Job Corps. She believed deeply in the power of education to change lives and touched countless students and colleagues throughout her career.

Her life took her from Wisconsin to Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, Illinois, California, and Florida before she ultimately settled in California. While living in Minnesota and Illinois, she was known as Kathleen (Kate) Kregness during her marriage to Jim Kregness. Following her divorce, she began a new chapter in California, where she built a fulfilling life surrounded by rekindled cherished friendships from earlier years, new friends, and remained devoted to her son, Sean.

Kathleen loved entertaining, treasured her close friendships, and had a wonderful sense of humor. A devout Catholic throughout her life, her faith was a constant source of strength. She also enjoyed traveling, especially to Europe, where Italy and Ireland were among her favorite destinations, as well as many trips to Baja, Mexico. Kathleen is survived by her son, Sean Kelly, and his wife, Sandra Kelly; and by her beloved grandchildren, Mitchell and Zoe.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Matilda; her sister, Ruth; and her brother, Norbert.

Kathleen will be remembered as an educator, loyal friend, and woman of deep faith whose warmth, generosity, and love enriched the lives of those who knew her. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched and, in the family, and friends who will forever cherish her memory.

A private family burial service will be held.
