Randall Gene Fidler
October 27, 1949 – August 19, 2026
Randall Gene Fidler, 76, of Bakersfield, California, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2026, surrounded by his wife and children. Born on October 27, 1949, in Bakersfield to JL and Mary Fidler, Randy lived a life defined by faith, family, service, loyalty, and a larger-than-life personality that will never be forgotten.
Randy was a United States Coast Guard veteran and a longtime member of Valley Baptist Church, where his faith remained a steady and meaningful part of his life. He loved attending church and found comfort, strength, and peace in his relationship with God.
Randy dedicated 32 years of service to the City of Bakersfield, retiring as the Chief of Code Enforcement. He also held both a building contractor’s license and a painting and decorating license. He was a hardworking man who took great pride in his work and in serving his community.
Those who knew Randy will remember his big personality, unwavering loyalty, humor, and his unique ability to make everyone feel like family. He loved his children and grandchildren deeply and was well known for giving nicknames to those he cared about. If you were especially dear to him, he might even sing you a song he made up just for you. His love for his family was evident in the way he showed up for them, supported them, and remained closely connected throughout their lives.
Randy enjoyed many things in life, including time spent at the family cabin, deep-sea fishing, and his love of guns and hunting. He also deeply valued the lifelong friendships he maintained with his classmates from Garces Memorial High School, many of whom remained an important part of his life.
Randy endured many physical injuries over the years and carried the weight of chronic pain with quiet strength and resilience. Though he suffered greatly at times, he remained strong outwardly—never allowing his struggles to define the way he loved, led, or showed up for his family.
Randy is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Elizabeth Fidler; his children, Chrissy Fidler Johnson and husband Dan Johnson, Nick Fidler and wife Tammy Fidler, Allie Wieland and husband Ian Wieland, Allyse Wharton and husband Steve Wharton, and Chase Fidler and fiancé Kristine Sea; and his grandchildren, Piercyn Fidler, Rhyder Fidler, Easton Wieland, Alivia Wharton, Beau Wieland, and Jett Wharton.
His family takes comfort in knowing that Randy’s earthly suffering is over and that he is now at peace in the presence of his Lord and Savior.
“For I consider that the sufferings of this present life are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is about to be revealed.”
